NEWS CENTER - Parliamentarians and academics made a call in front of the Council of Europe and stated, "The Council of Europe should put pressure on Turkey for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and the solution of the Kurdish issue, and encourage Turkey to comply with its own standards."
While human rights and freedoms in Turkey were discussed on the agenda of the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe PACE) to be held in Strasbourg between 29 September and 3 October 2025, a press statement was made in front of the PACE for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the political solution of the Kurdish issue.
Political Scientist Sinan Önal made the presentation of the press conference and reminded that the policies of many member states, including Turkey, were discussed; many meetings were held with members and delegations of members in order for the Parliamentary Assembly to follow the statements made by the Committee of Ministers for Turkey in the context of the right to hope and for the Parliamentary Assembly to propose legal arrangements to the Parliament on this issue.
Önal stated that the friends of the Kurdish people, representing the global campaign "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, Political Solution to the Kurdish Issue", also held meetings with the parliamentarians and delegations of their member countries in the context of the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and the political solution of the Kurdish issue, and that they made various briefings for the realisation of the process initiated in Turkey and to prevent its failure, and left the floor to the parliamentarians and academics.
