The geography of Şirnex (Şırnak - North Kurdistan) has been continuously destroyed for 5 years. Gabar Mountain is especially targeted. Many areas that have been banned since the early 1990s on the grounds of "military zones" are being destroyed through oil exploration, fortress construction and forest clearing. Rangers cut down hundreds of trees every day under military supervision.

 

Due to the plunder of nature, the habitats of wild goats and gazelles, which are in danger of extinction, are also disappearing. The images taken from the region revealed the situation in question. Wild goats are seen running on the barren slopes. In the area where the goats are seen, it is seen that the trees have been completely cut down and the nature has suffered a great destruction.

 

BANNED SINCE THE 90S

 

With an altitude of 2 thousand144 metres, Gabar Mountain has a rich ecosystem. Olive, pine, oak and juniper trees are found in the region. There are also endemic plant species on the slopes of the mountain. Wild goats, foxes, jackals, gazelles and various bird species also live here.

 

A lot of villages have been banned for civilians on the grounds of "special security zone" since the 90s. Citizens can go to their villages from time to time with special permission from the Şırnak Governorate.
